Abstract: The article investigates the interest in the social and historical study of childhood in the texts written by Gilberto Freyre during his formative years. It highlights the appropriation of New History, which combined history, anthropology, and culture, as well as Child Study in psychology, derived from his studies at Columbia University. The article analyzes his considerations regarding a sociology of play and the history of childhood, as well as the child and social life in Brazil. It is argued that alongside the author's attentive focus on neglected themes in societal studies, his stance was characterized by an uncritical and selective approach to sources, conservatism, and the naturalization of racial and social relations.

Resumen: El artículo indaga el interés por el estudio social e histórico de la niñez en los textos escritos por Gilberto Freyre durante sus años de formación. Se indica la apropiación de la New History, que articuló historia, antropología y cultura, así como del Child Study, en psicología, proveniente de sus estudios en la Universidad de Columbia. Se analizan sus reflexiones sobre una sociología del juego y la historia de la infancia, y sobre los niños y la vida social en Brasil. Se considera que, además de una mirada atenta a temas descuidados en los estudios de sociedad, la posición del autor estuvo marcada por una apropiación acrítica y selectiva de las fuentes, por el conservadurismo y por la naturalización de las relaciones raciales y sociales.

Resumo: O artigo investiga o interesse pelo estudo social e histórico da meninice nos textos escritos por Gilberto Freyre, durante seus anos de formação. Indica-se a apropriação da New History, que articulava história antropologia e cultura, assim como do Child Study, na psicologia, oriunda dos seus estudos na Universidade de Colúmbia. Analisam-se as suas considerações sobre uma sociologia do brinquedo e a história da meninice, e sobre a criança e a vida social no Brasil. Considera-se que, ao lado do olhar atento para temáticas desprezadas nos estudos da sociedade, o posicionamento do autor marcava-se por uma apropriação acrítica e seletiva das fontes, pelo conservadorismo e pela naturalização das relações raciais e sociais.

ABSTRACT The text1 discusses the history of day care centers in Amazonas under the Projeto Casulo of Legião Brasileira de Assistência (LBA) between 1979, when the first daycare center opened, and 1990, the year in which the LBA reached 61 municipalities in the state. We assume that these day care centers emerged in a context of mass projects for children up to the age of six, implemented at a low cost, in collaboration with multilateral organizations, meeting Unicef requirements, such as the reduction of needs in material and cultural spheres, through the proliferation of these institutions throughout the country. We use the historical method with a social and cultural approach, having as procedures and instruments: documentary research, through journals, official and non-official documents, interviews, and oral reports. The findings reveal that the expansion of the day care centers occurred directly through operational units of direct execution, managed by the LBA, and indirectly through accredited operational units, in accordance with the National Security Doctrine - DSN.

RESUMO O texto discorre sobre a história das creches do Projeto Casulo da Legião Brasileira de Assistência (LBA), no Amazonas entre os anos de 1979, quando a primeira creche foi inaugurada, e 1990, ano em que a LBA atingiu os 61 municípios do Estado. Parte-se do pressuposto de essas creches surgirem em um contexto de execução de projetos em massa para as crianças com até 6 anos, implementados a baixo custo, em articulação com organismos multilaterais, atendendo às exigências do Unicef, como a redução das necessidades em esferas materiais e culturais, por meio da proliferação destas instituições em todo o país. O método histórico foi utilizado, com abordagem social e cultural, tendo como procedimentos e instrumentos: pesquisa documental, por meio de periódicos e documentos oficiais e não oficiais, entrevista e relato oral. Os resultados revelaram que a expansão do atendimento nas creches ocorreu por meio de unidades operacionais de execução direta, administradas pela LBA, e indireta, conveniadas, dentro dos ditames preconizados pela Doutrina de Segurança Nacional- DSN.

O trabalho discorre sobre a elaboração da Base de Dados do "Boletim Interno da Divisão de Educação, Assistência e Recreio", da Secretaria de Educação e Cultura do Município de São Paulo, publicação mensal que circulou nos Parques Infantis paulistanos no período de 1947 a 1957. A criação da base justifica-se pela necessidade de se sistematizarem informações sobre a estrutura e a organização do Boletim Interno e identificar tendências educacionais e temas enfocados. Tornou-se orientação o princípio de que a definição dos campos de registro não deve ocorrer, a priori, sem um exame prévio da publicação. Considera-se a base como um primeiro processo de análise que, para prover elementos para a pesquisa, precisa ser composta por campos analíticos adequados às especificidades da publicação, ultrapassando a formalidade de registros.

The study describes the setting up of a database for the "Internal Bulletin of the Education, Assistance and Recreation Division - Boletim Interno da Divisão de Educação, Assistência e Recreio" of the São Paulo Municipal Secretariat for Education and Culture, a monthly publication that circulated among kindergartens in the city of São Paulo from 1947 to 1957. We justify the setting-up of the database because of the need to systematize the information on the structure and organization of the Internal Bulletin and identify educational trends and topics that were focused on. The guiding principle was that recording fields should not be defined, a priori, without prior examination of the publication. The database is deemed to be a first analytical process, which in order to provide information to the study, needs to be composed of analytical fields that are suitable to the specificities of the publication, going beyond the formality of records.

Este texto pretende identificar aspectos da educação das crianças de zero a seis anos, no Asilo dos Expostos da Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo, de 1896 até 1950. Para tanto, foram consultados os Relatórios dos Mordomos dos Expostos. O texto trata inicialmente das propostas para os bebês, e posteriormente das propostas para as crianças de três a seis anos. Em relação aos bebês, o aspecto mais importante foi o fato de as crianças não serem mais entregues às amas para serem criadas, permanecendo no berçário, que foi fundado em 1936. Com relação às crianças maiores, desde o início do século identifica-se a existência do jardim-de-infância, que irá também se renovar na década de 1940, com a chegada de profissionais ligadas à secretaria estadual de educação. As propostas e as concepções pedagógicas existentes na sociedade se manifestam nas funções educacionais do asilo.

This text intends to identify educational aspects of zero to six years old children, in the Asylum of the Displayed of São Paulo Santa Casa de Misericórdia, from 1896 up to 1950. For such, reports of the butlers of the House of the Displayed had been consulted. The text deal, initially, with the proposals for the babies and, later, with those for the three to six years old children. With regard to the babies, the most important issue was the fact that the children were no longer given to be raised by wet nurses: they remained in the nursery, which was created in 1936. In relationship to older children, the pre-school, founded in the beginning of the century, was renewed in the decade of 1940, with the arrival of professionals linked to the state board of education. The existing proposals and pedagogical conceptions of society are disclosed in the educational functions of the Asylum.
